Welcome to the MUSIC AT LUNCHTIME website!


MUSIC AT LUNCHTIME is a series of concerts (not too heavy!) given at Farnham United Reformed Church, South Street, Farnham, Surrey, on Tuesdays, usually the first Tuesday of the month, from October until the Spring. Concerts start at 1.10 p.m. and finish round about 1.50 p.m.

Other concerts are sometimes held at the church: for example see the first concert mentioned below.

There is no charge for admission to lunchtime concerts, but there is a retiring collection.

The Mike Miller Jazz Trio

The Mike Miller Jazz Trio, described by veteran jazz critic Derek Ansell (Jazz Journal International) as a "Lock, stock and smokin' jazz trio", presented a programme of jazz - the first time that jazz has featured in Music at Lunchtime.

Tuesday 1 November 2011 1.10 p.m.

The D'Avanzo Piano Trio
 

Unfortunately because of an injury sustained by Peter Mallinson, Duo Figaro are not able to perform on 1st November 2011. In their place we are delighted to welcome the D'Avanzo Piano Trio (Lucia D'Avanzo, violin, Noelle Casella, cello and Sebastian Grand, piano), who will perform a concert of music by Bridge, Lalo and Van der Roost.

Tuesday 6 December 2011 1.10 p.m.

 Litsa Tunnah, violin

Litsa made her concerto debut at the age of 12 playing Mendelssohn, and has since appeared frequently as a concerto soloist, working in collaboration with orchestras such as the Eastbourne symphony orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the London International Orchestra. She was a pupil at the Purcell School of Music and is a graduate of both the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music.

In 2002 Litsa was a finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition, and as a result appeared on BBC 2 and BBC4. Litsa has also broadcast on radio for BBC radio3, BBC Southern and Classic FM.

Tuesday 7 February 2012 1.10 p.m.

Gillian Lloyd, Organ

Unfortunately the music students from Frensham Heights, who were down to perform at this concert, are not able to do so.

We are very grateful to Gillian Lloyd for agreeing to step in at short notice to give us an organ recital instead. Gillian is a distinguished church organist and recitalist from Guildford who has appeared at lunchtime recitals on a number of ocasions in the past and her concert is sure to please.

Wednesday 28 March 2012 1.10 p.m.

 Chris Pelly, trumpet, with Barbara Henvest, piano

Chris Pelly is currently reading music at university. He is well known to regular attenders at our concerts, having conducted Schubert's 5th Symphony here in April 2010.

His concert is devoted to modern music for trumpet and piano.

Barbara Henvest is the keyboard player for the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

 Tuesday 10 April 2012 1.10 p.m.

 Matthew Rickard, piano

Matthew Rickard read Music at the University of Surrey where he studied the piano with Clive Williamson. He pursued his postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music, specialising in piano accompaniment. Matthew currently enjoys a busy career as a chamber musician and soloist. Recent highlights include appearances at the 2011 English Music Festival and at the National Concert Hall in Dublin.

The organ was built in 1906 by Henry Jones & Sons, South Kensington, renovated in 1986 by Bishop and Sons and rebuilt in 2005/6 by James Richardson-Jones.
